New Bowie Police Chief Appointed, Will Be Sworn In Jan. 2

Bowie's current acting police chief has been appointed police chief, effective immediately. The new police chief will be sworn in Jan. 2.

BOWIE, MD — The city of Bowie has selected a new chief of police to replace John Nesky, who retired in September after 12 years at the helm.

Dwayne Preston has served as acting chief of police for Bowie since Nesky’s retirement and assumes the role of chief effective immediately. Preston is a 30-year veteran of law enforcement and served as deputy chief before stepping into the role of acting chief.

Preston is a graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School and earned an accounting degree from Bowie State University. He holds a master of business administration from the University of Maryland, University College.
