Nonprofit Offers Two Free Food Sites In Prince George's County

Two large-scale food distributions will take place in Prince George's County to help address a growing hunger problem in the area.

BOWIE, MD – Two large-scale food distributions will take place in Prince George's County to help address a growing hunger problem in the area triggered by the new coronavirus.

Catholic Charities is working to address hunger and meet the basic needs of food, shelter and medical care of those who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. In Maryland, the largest number of reported cases has been in Prince George's County. As of Monday, there were over 5,200 confirmed cases and 187 deaths.

The distribution sites will have more than 400 food packages offered in a drive-thru format. Each car will receive a 27-pound package that contains fresh fruits and vegetables and protein. More than 1,000 hot rest beef meals will also be distributed, as each car will receive take-home dinners from Catholic Charities' St. Maria's Meals service.

The distributions, led by Catholic Charities DC, will take place on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, April 28 at 4 p.m. at the Susan Dennison Mona Center, 5859 Allentown Way, Temple Hills
  • Tuesday, May 5 at 12 p.m. at Northwestern High School, 7000 Adelphi Road, Hyattsville

Recipients will also receive information on medical care, remote immigration legal services and financial literacy mentoring.
