Police Investigating Possible Beating of Special Needs Student on School Bus in Bowie

Police have opened up an investigation into the incident, which took place Sept. 1.

BOWIE, MD — Five Prince George's County Public School employees have been placed on leave and police have opened an investigation into allegations that a non-employee beat an adult special needs student on a school bus recently, according to police and a spokesperson for PGCPS Superintendent Kevin Maxwell.

The alleged incident happened in the parking lot of Elizabeth Rieg Regional School in Bowie on Sept. 1, according to Prince George's County Police.

Raven Hill, a spokesperson for Maxwell, confirmed to Patch.com that Maxwell had viewed the video on Sept. 14 and informed police. She added that five employees of PGCPS had been placed on leave as well.

It's the latest in a series of problems for Prince George's County Public Schools. The school system lost millions of dollars in Head Start funding after a report claimed that there was widespread abuse and humiliation of children in PG County schools. Also, a school bus aide with PGCPS is accused of molesting special needs students on a bus in Clinton, Md.
