• Chinyere Ukeje Wins $300K NASA Competition for Space Food Systems (theinnercitynews.com) — A young innovator who grew up in Bowie has just won a $300,000 NASA prize for designing a new food system to feed astronauts on long Mars missions. Now a graduate student at Johns Hopkins, she proposed turning compact food cubes into customizable meals using portable electric lunch boxes, and plans to invest part of her winnings into further food technology research.

• Prince George's Co. Council votes to advance billion-dollar Sphere project (wtop.com) — Prince George's County leaders just advanced a massive $1.4 billion Sphere entertainment venue at National Harbor, arguing it will more than replace tax revenue lost from Six Flags' closure in Bowie and the Commanders' planned exit from Landover. The council approved bond financing and a labor peace deal, but rejected guarantees that 40% of construction work go to union labor, frustrating some organized labor groups.
