Pedestrian Struck On I-495, Dies At Hospital: Police
A pedestrian was struck while trying to cross the Capital Beltway, police said. The victim died at a hospital soon after, officers added.
LANHAM, MD — Police said a pedestrian was struck Friday on Interstate 495. Officers noted he died soon after at the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center in Largo. Authorities identified the victim as 26-year-old James Arthur Jones III of Landover.
An incident report mentioned the accident happened around 10:45 p.m. in Lanham. Troopers explained they found the victim lying on northbound I-495, north of U.S. Route 50.
Investigators think Jones was in a separate, single-vehicle crash before he was hit. Detectives added the victim got out of his vehicle and tried to run across the Capital Beltway, leading to at least one driver hitting him.
