PG County Officer Killed Was Father Of 4, Marine Veteran

A Prince George's County police officer was killed saving a neighbor's life, say officials; police shot and killed the shooter.

BRANDYWINE, MD -- Police have identified the officer slain at the scene of a domestic disturbance call Wednesday morning in Brandywine as a 14-year veteran of the force, Medal of Valor recipient, and a former U.S. Marine. They have also released the identity of the deceased suspect accused of killing him.

Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski told assembled media that it was a "cowardly act," and praised the actions of the deceased officer, who he identified as Corporal Mujahid A. Ramzziddin, a husband and father to four children.

"A neighbor came to him at his home -- he was not working -- needing help," Stawinski. "He immediately responded to that plea for help, and shortly thereafter found himself in confrontation with a man armed with a shotgun -- cold, callous. Ramzziddin stood his ground.

"He saved her life by giving his own," Stawinski added.

He said that the suspect fled, and was later shot and killed by responding officers. Two officers were involved in the confrontation, but Stawinski said he had no details beyond that. Police later identified the suspect as 37-year-old Glenn Tyndell, and said he had three open warrants for assault.

"When I have more facts, the community will have those facts," he said.

Answering questions from the media afterward, Stawinski noted that the suspect fled into Charles County, where officers in that jurisdiction kept him in their sights and allowed PG County officers to catch up to and confront him.

Before the press conference began, a spokesperson chastised the media for publishing images of the deceased officer, and asked them to show restraint out of respect to the family. Patch was not one of those media outlets, which were not named.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan released a statement on Ramzzidin, calling his death an "unspeakable tragedy."

"The First Lady and I are praying for his family, loved ones, and the department during this difficult time," Hogan said. "Corporal Ramzziddin was a military veteran and a distinguished law enforcement officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of his neighbors and community. His memory and service will never be forgotten."
