PG County Hospital Expands Ability To Treat Coronavirus
Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington has installed STAAT Mod modules to expand its capability to treat coronavirus patients.
FORT WASHINGTON, MD — Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center became the first hospital in the country Tuesday to install STAAT Mod TM (Strategic, Temporary, Acuity-Adaptable Treatment) modular units, which are used to treat critically ill patients and those suffering from COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, according to a release.
The units, which arrived on site April 25, were designed by HGA and assembled by The Boldt Company. Now that they're connected to the hospital's infrastructure, they're available to treat the hospital's COVID-19 patients.
“Maryland is proud that Fort Washington Medical Center is the first hospital in the country to receive this ICU-level of care unit,” said Gov. Larry Hogan, in a release. “This newly constructed unit is another example of increasing hospital capacity for care of patients suffering from COVID-19 in Prince George’s County.”

Working with the Maryland Department of General Services, Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center was looking for a way to increase its ICU-bed capacity and Adventists hopes STAAT Mod proves to be that solution. STAAT Mod's Airborne Infection Isolation Rooms (AIIR) provide increased safety for patients and caregivers.
Adventist HealthCare installed 12 modules adjacent to the hospital, providing 16 private ICU rooms with isolation and support space. In total, the installation took two weeks to finish.

“COVID-19 is an unprecedented event and we are both grateful and proud to be able to bring the cutting-edge solution to our Fort Washington location,” said Terry Forde, president and CEO, Adventist HealthCare, in a release. “Being able to deploy an ICU-level facility and care in three weeks gives our team an opportunity to help even more people in our area who need care so urgently right now.”
