PG County Public Schools Chief of Staff Resigns in Wake of Head Start Controversy

George Margolies has stepped down, according to PGCPS CEO Kevin Maxwell.

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — Prince George's County Public Schools Chief of Staff George Margolies has resigned from his position in the wake of a controversy over the school system losing Head Start funding.

PGCPS Chief Executive Officer Kevin Maxwell said in a statement provided to Patch.com that he had asked his "colleague and friend" to step down as his chief of staff. He did not provide a reason for the resignation and said only that he thanked him for nearly 40 years of service in public education.

The resignation comes shortly after reports that PGCPS staff was being disciplined after the school system lost millions of dollars in federal Head Start funding due to reported incidents of corporal punishment and humiliation of children.
