PGPD Officer Indicted For Hitting Pedestrian, Leaving Him At Hospital
A Prince George's police officer has been indicted for hitting a pedestrian with his cruiser and then leaving him at a medical facility.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A suspended patrol officer has been indicted on one count of misconduct in office by a Prince George's County grand jury.
On March 3, Prince George's Police Corporal Dexter Shin, 35, hit an 80-year-old man with his police cruiser in Laurel. The officer failed to report the collision and then, according to the State's Attorney's Office, personally removed the victim from the scene of the accident and took him to a local medical facility.
The indictment states that Shin left the victim at a closed ambulance bay without alerting medical personnel or the police department. Officials say the victim suffered a broken leg.

When the department was alerted to the incident, Shin was suspended and the Internal Affairs Division immediately opened an investigation. The Internal Affairs Division presented its finding to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office for consideration of criminal charges leading to this week's indictment, the state's attorney's office shared.
“The allegations against this officer are deeply disturbing and do not align with the ethical standards to which we hold our officers and do not represent the hardworking women and men of this agency. If proven true, I would also advocate he be held accountable to the fullest extent possible in the administrative process,” said Prince George's Police Chief Malik Aziz.

Shin joined the agency in 2017 and currently is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol. He will remain suspended pending the outcome of the indictment, the police department said.
"We are pleased with the grand jury's decision to indictment this case, which we believe is appropriate based on the alleged actions of the officer. We remain committed to seeking justice for all without impartiality, while ensuring the protection of our most vulnerable citizens," said State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy.
