POLL: Would You Like to See Changes to Bowie's Speed Cameras?

Last week, The Gazette reported that some Bowie officials would like to reintroduce red light cameras to some intersections in an effort to reduce speeds and increase safety.

According to The Gazette, councilman Henri Gardner (District 3) is a proponent of cameras at more locations, but Councilwoman Diane Polangin (District 3) said she thinks the cameras reduce safety because when motorists see them, they slow down too quickly.

The city currently maintains eight speed cameras that are rotated around 14 locations to capture photographs of drivers exceeding the speed limit by 12 mph or more and penalizes them with a $40 mailed ticket.

Bowie Police Chief John Nesky told The Gazette these cameras have resulted in a drastic drop in speeding.
