The Rock Banned campaign at Prince George's County Memorial Library System celebrates readers' rights to be have access to all books.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Banned Books Week runs Sept. 18-24 and as a way to support keeping readers connected to all literature, the Prince George's Memorial Library System has launched a new "Rock Banned" campaign.

“PGCMLS proudly defends Prince George’s County residents' freedom to read. Literature plays a vital role in helping us understand the multitude of complex and challenging issues facing society today,” Megan Sutherland, interim chief operating officer for public services at PGMLS, said.

The library’s new year-round campaign aims to build public awareness in Prince George’s County about the importance of the freedom to read, leaders say. PGCMLS affirms Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and Bowie resident Leonard Pitts Jr.’s told the Miami Herald, “If you can’t read freely, how can you ever live freely?”
