Girl Gets Lost At Caps Parade, Finds Herself With Stanley Cup

The young girl was in tears and "totally freaked out," but the day ended happily.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Twelve-year-old Sophia Michnick was at the Washington Capitals Stanley Cup victory parade in D.C. on Tuesday when she became separated from her family, leaving her in tears and not sure what to do. But then something amazing happened.

Sophia was crying and "totally freaked out," but then a couple of Park Police officers "stepped in and escorted her to the [Stanley] Cup," the Metropolitan Police Department said in a tweet.

The grinning preteen was also just a few feet from Caps superstar and captain Alexander Ovechkin in the background. She ended up "getting the best possible view" of anyone at the parade, despite the rocky start to the day.

WUSA 9 reports that her dad and brother tried to stake out a spot in front of the stage, but Sophia wanted to see the parade. The crowds eventually became too thick for her to even get to the meet-up point. The huge volume of people also made it impossible to get any cell service, so she was stuck.

"I was really scared not finding him," she told WUSA 9. "I thought I was never going to find my dad cause there were so many people. I was trying to slide through the people. There was no cell service."
