Smoke Alarms To Get Free Check on Saturday

Firefighters will go door-to-door in Old Town Bowie to check the devices.

Smoke detectors save lives, but they must be installed properly and have good working batteries. This Saturday, Oct. 24, some residents of Old Town Bowie will have the opportunity to make sure that smoke alarms will help protect them in the event of a fire in their home.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. firefighters from Bowie Stations 19 (Old Bowie) and 39 (Free State Mall) will knock on doors in Old Town Bowie in the vicinity of Maple Avenue and Old Laurel Bowie Road (between 6th and 9th streets) to promote fire prevention and help residents with their smoke alarms.

The project is being conducted by the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department, the Prince George’s County Fire Department and Lowes of Bowie.
