State Basketball Draw Sets High School Basketball Playoff Match-ups

Bowie girls get a bye, the boys will play Oxon Hill in the first round.

The Maryland basketball state playoff seeding draw was held at Columbia’s Long Reach High School on Sunday, officially announcing first-round playoff match-ups for all boys and girls teams in every division, 1A through 4A.

In Maryland, every team is eligible for post-season play. Playoffs are broken up by Class A designation, and then further bracketed by state location (north, south, east and west). Generally in each location (for example 3A West), the teams with the four best records are given the top four seeds and receive a bye in first-round play. The rest of the teams are seeded at random and matched up against one another in the first round.

The Bowie girls team finished first in their division, and will enjoy a bye for the first round. They will play the winner of the game between the No. 8 seed Duval and No. 9 seed High Point.

The Bowie boys team was the No. 10 seed, and will play No. 7 seed Oxon Hill. The winner of that game will play No. 2 seed Suitland, who has a bye for the first round.

The full playoff bracket for both the boys and girls can be found on the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association website.
