State Police Investigate Crash That Killed Bowie Man
Maryland State Police are investing the cause an early morning crash in Charles County that killed a U.S. Navy Police sergeant from Bowie.
(INDIAN HEAD, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a Dec. 18 crash in Charles County that killed a Bowie man. The victim was identified as Anthony Oglesby Jr., 34, a civilian police officer in the Defense Department, according to a police report.
Troopers from the LaPlata Barrack responded around 2:30 a.m. to the southbound area of Maryland Route 224 Chicamuxen Road and Sweden Point Road in Indian Head, in response to a report of a vehicle having driven off the road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Oglesby was driving a 2015 Ford Taurus, when, for reasons unknown, he drove off the right side of the road. His vehicle struck a tree, which fell on the vehicle, causing it to catch fire. Oglesby was declared dead at the scene.

Oglesby, who was a sergeant in the U.S. Navy Police, was on duty and driving a marked patrol car when the crash occurred, according to investigators. He was the only occupant of the car. His body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy was performed. Oglesby died of multiple injuries and his death was deemed accidental, according to OCME spokesman Bruce Goldfarb.
Police kept the intersection in the area of the crash closed for about four hours. Helping with the crash were units from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash.
