Suspect Arrested In Shooting During Basketball Game At LA Fitness In Glenarden: Police

An argument during a basketball game at LA Fitness resulted in one man shooting another. The suspect is in custody, police said.

GLENARDEN, MD — The suspect wanted in connection to a shooting at the LA Fitness gym located at 9450 Ruby Lockhart Blvd. has been arrested.

On April 11 at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers with the Glenarden Police Department were called to the gym for a report of a shooting. They found a man with gunshot wounds and took him to the hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition, according to the Prince George's Police Department.

The PGPD’s Fugitive Squad took 24-year-old Nelson Ballard III of Landoverinto custody this week. A preliminary investigation indicates the Ballard shot the victim during an argument while playing basketball.

Ballard has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, weapons offenses and related charges. Anyone with information relevant to this investigation is asked to call detectives at 301-772-8960.
