Corporal Barbour has been suspended since 2016 after being charged with theft.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD -- A Prince George's County police officer has been found not guilty of theft, but remains suspended while an investigation continues, police say.

A criminal trial returned a not guilty finding for Corporal Cordell Barbour, who had been charged in October 2016 with one count of theft in regards to a "secondary employment investigation," according to a statement from the Prince George's County Police Department.

"He currently remains on suspension pending the outcome of the internal administrative investigation which is ongoing," the statement adds. "Barbour has been employed by the department for nine years and is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol."

The Internal Affairs Division started investigating Barbour in April 2016 after "learning of potential misconduct involving Barbour's secondary employment compensation," reads a 2016 PGPD statement.

"The Prince George's County Police Department brought this case to the State's Attorney's Office for consideration of criminal charges following our own internal investigation," the statement reads. "The department will not tolerate any criminal misconduct. We have an unwavering commitment to maintain the community's trust."
