Teacher Faces Sex Abuse Charges Involving Former Student: Prince George's Co. Police

A 44-year-old Prince George's County Public Schools teacher has been arrested after a former student told police he sexually abused her.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A high school teacher has been arrested after police say they received a sexual assault report filed by his former student.

Lonnie Elias Jr., 44, has taught within Prince George's County Public Schools since 2007.

According to the Prince George's County Police Department, the female student told police Sept. 30 that she was sexually assaulted by Elias between 2015-2017 while she was a student at Largo High School.

The victim was interviewed by investigators with the Prince George’s County Police Special Crimes Division Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse Unit and provided details of the abuse. The suspect was interviewed by investigators Oct. 2. The PGPD notified PGCPS officials Oct. 3 and Elias was placed on administrative duty, the police department noted.

The suspect did not have contact with students after the police department and school system became aware of the incident, the police department said.

The State’s Attorney’s Office presented the case for indictment Oct. 18 and a grand jury issued a warrant for the suspect for sex abuse of a minor and other related charges.

The suspect was arrested in Upper Marlboro Oct. 21 by members of the police department's fugitive unit.
