The Patch Poll: What's the Point of the Speed Cameras?
Patch wants to know why do you think the speed cameras are here?
Speed cameras: Maybe you think they are good, maybe you hate them or your thoughts are somewhere in between. Regardless, we’re most likely going to have live with them in Bowie.
Barring a drastic change in public policy, if you drive more than 12 mph over the speed limit at certain locations, the speed cameras may catch you.

Since the program began in June 2010, more than 113,000 citations have been issued. Each ticket carries a fine of $40.
The cameras have brought in more than $3.2 million in revenue. About 60 percent goes to the city’s traffic safety programs and about 40 percent to the company that runs the speed cameras for Bowie, Affiliated Computer Services in Dallas.

The cameras run Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. in the following school zones:
- Old Chapel Road near and .
- Race Track Road near .
- Route 197 near .
- Route 450 near and .
- Northview Drive near .
- Belair Drive near the Belair Annex to Bowie High School.
