PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — As cases of the COVID-19 delta variant increase across the state, booster shots are available for Prince George's County residents who have weakened immune systems.

Third doses of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are free as of Aug. 20 at the county vaccine clinic operating at the Wayne Curry Sports and Learning Complex in Landover. Appointments are not necessary, according to a news release from the office of Angela Alsobrooks, Prince George’s County executive.

The site is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Third doses for immunocompromised individuals are also available at local pharmacies, urgent care facilities, retail stores, and via other health care providers.

  • Eligible individuals seeking third doses do not have to receive them at the same clinic where they received their first and second doses.
  • The County Health Department said residents should consult with their doctor to determine if they need an additional dose. The county will not require proof or a doctor’s note from individuals to receive a third dose.
  • The CDC has not recommended additional doses for any other populations at this time. The FDA has yet to authorize an additional dose for people who are immunocompromised and received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for County Government

  • Under the new executive order, all county employees, contractors and volunteers reporting to the office are required to produce written evidence of having been vaccinated for COVID-19 by Oct. 3, 2021. Those that do not produce evidence of vaccination will be subject to weekly COVID-19 testing.
    • Employees who fail to either produce evidence of vaccination or weekly testing will be subject to progressive disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal.
    • The Office of Human Resources Management will provide more detailed policies and procedures to County employees, including procedures by which an employee may request an accommodation on the basis of a bona fide medical or religious reason.
    • Quasi-government and independent agencies within the County are strongly encouraged to adopt the vaccination policy of the County Government.

Back-To-School Immunization Clinics Schedule

  • The County Health Department has released the schedules for back-to-school childhood immunization clinics. The clinics are open to all county residents and will offer COVID-19 vaccinations to eligible students and their family members.
    • Immunization clinics are by appointment only.
    • Parents or legal guardians must bring a copy of all your child’s immunization (shots) records. Only the children who have immunization appointments should be present at the clinic.
    • To make an appointment, visit the immunization clinic scheduling portal.
