UMD Offensive Lineman Dies After Team Workout

The coach said in a statement that he was "heartbroken" over Jordan McNair's death.

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- An offensive lineman for the University of Maryland football team has died after collapsing during a team workout late last month.

Jordan McNair was airlifted to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore on May 29 following a team workout, where he received a liver transplant, according to a GoFundMe page. He died on Wednesday.

"Our team is heartbroken with the loss of Jordan McNair," UMD Coach D.J. Durkin said in a statement. "Jordan was an incredible young man, and his passion and enthusiasm made him an invaluable and beloved member of our team. ... Over the past few weeks, Jordan never gave up with his family, friends and team by his side. Our team will continue to be inspired by the spirit of this brave fighter. Please continue to pray for Jordan’s family during this difficult time."

The GoFundMe page was set up about a week ago to help his parents, Tonya and Marty, pay for medical expenses. It has raised more than $27,000 as of Thursday morning.
