Virginia Woman, Dog Killed By Passing Car After Their Vehicle Broke Down: MD State Police

A Virginia woman's car broke down in MD and when she, her dog and a passenger got out, the woman and the dog were killed by passing car.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD —A 32-year-old Virginia woman and her dog were killed Friday shortly before 3 a.m. after they were hit by a Hyundai Elantra.

Troopers from the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack were called to the area of Outer Loop Interstate 495 at Allentown Road for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. According to a preliminary investigation, Kerri Snead’s vehicle was traveling south on the Inner Loop of I-495 at Allentown Road when it began to experience a mechanical issue. Snead, another person in the vehicle and the dog all got out of the vehicle and attempted to cross the Outer Loop when Snead and the dog were hit by the Hyundai.

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra involved in the crash was taken by ambulance to the University of Maryland Capital Regional Medical Center in Largo for treatment of their injuries. No charges are being filed at this time. The person traveling with Snead was uninjured in the crash.

The northbound lanes of I-495 at Allentown Boulevard were closed for more than four hours following the crash. The Maryland State Police Crash Team responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into the crash.
