Bruins Fly Past Seahawks in Softball; Fall in Baseball
Teams played Monday in the last county games of the regular season before Tuesday's playoff brackets are announced.

EDGEWATER--In the last games of the regular season, the Bruins met the South River Seahawks in Edgewater on Monday. The girls walloped the Seahawks (16-2), while the boys fell (3-2). The Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association will name playoff brackets on Tuesday.
Girls Softball
The Broadneck girls softball team has won the state title two out of the past three years. They are well positioned going into today’s MPSSAA’s bracketing (slated for 1 p.m.). With 14 wins and two losses this spring, the Lady Bruins have had a standout season. Of the 14 girls on the 2011 roster, five are graduating seniors including pitcher/infielder Bekah Kiser, infielder Courtney Long, outfielder Tyler Thompson, outfielder Lauren Tolliver and catcher/infielder Adrienne Gebele.

The team has one game left in regular season play—they meet Seton Keough in Baltimore at 4 p.m. today.
In Edgewater on Monday, junior Emilee Pflueger pitched the entire game against South River. The Bruins took out South River 16 to 2.

Highlights included a couple RBIs courtesy of junior Paige Ruden, while junior Kristine Dillard went four for five at bat.
Boys Baseball
For the boys on Monday, the game was quiet through the fourth inning with no runs scored by either team. In the fifth inning, both Broadneck and South River each scored one run.
The top of the sixth gave Broadneck an additional run, while a double by South River's Nick Seal in the bottom of the sixth brought in two runners, bringing the score to 3-2 for South River.
The seventh inning ended quickly and quietly with neither team adding anything to the scoreboard.
The boys final game of the regular season will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. against Northern.
Playoff games for both baseball and softball will begin on May 16.
