Cougars Dominate the Bulldogs, 32-0

The 11-U Cape St. Claire Cougars led by first-year Head Coach Larry Stump went to southern Anne Arundel County to take on the Southern Bulldogs on Saturday night. The Cougars ended their first game with a win and a final score of 32-0.

Both teams started slow and the defenses dominated early in a scoreless first quarter. But in the second quarter, running back Zach Doyle took a handoff from quarterback Joseph Paquin and bolted 19 yards for the Cougars' first touchdown of the night. 

The Cougar defense coached by Jason Doyle and Allen Mastros turned up the heat on Southern and totally controlled the line of scrimmage. Ronnie DeMarino, Connor Frederick and Max Kaufman were defensive standouts for the Cougars. Kaufman even had a fumble return for a touchdown. 

The Cougar offensive line took control of the game midway through the second quarter led by first year player and Center Chris “Biggin” Ignaczak. The Cougars ran their famous wedge play seven times in a row in the second quarter, capping off the drive with a Tyler Vermillion touchdown, his first of two on the night. The Cougars had nine players carry the ball and averaged 5.28 yards per carry as a team.

In the second half, it was more of the same as the Bulldog offense had no answer for the Cougars pressure defense. The Cougar second team offense played most of the second half and didn’t miss a beat. Quarterback Brendan Stewart led the Cougars on their final drive of the night and finished it off himself with a one-yard quarterback sneak behind his center Big Ken Cazahuatl. 

The Cougars, now 1-0 for the season, will face the Davidsonville Gators this Saturday at Davidsonville Park at 11:15 a.m.
