The Name is Actually a Car by Eddie Applefeld

It's small, it's good and serves breakfast all day

I can't believe I have never been to Duesenberg's American Cafe and Grill in Catonsville.  I guess I should add, up until now.  Situated at 10 Mellor Avenue, just off Frederick Road, Duesenberg's has been owned by Gary Teegardin, also the cook, since January of 2009.  So right away you know the restaurant is locally owned.  In my opinion, very important in the restaurant business.

It's open Monday through Saturday serving breakfast and lunch all day.  There are 40 seats inside and another 24 outside, where you can hear live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoon, and very soon there will be additional dining inside.

The first thing that caught my attention was how big the menu is.  I'm talking about the number of selections, not actual size.  Because after all, who really cares how big the menu is.  But what are the signature dishes you might be asking.  Gary told me they would include the Chesapeake club with shrimp and jumbo lump crab and the Chesapeake three egg omelette and yes also any of the benedicts.  Carry out and on and off premise catering are available.

At the end of my meal I was presented with a wonderous slice of strawberry shortcake, which I did not order by the way.  It was too much for me so I said please bring me a container, this is going home with me.  So there I was staring at it.  So okay one bite wont hurt.  Okay is two so bad.  I will admit before the container even reached the table the dessert was history.  I learned it was made on premise as are most of the desserts.

If you like German food, every Wednesday through Saturday a German cook comes in and the menu becomes all German food.  This has been going on for awhile and appears to be popular.  I must admit, I am not familiar with German cooking.

Gary grew up in a small town in Indiana.  Close by was a Duesenberg car factory.  He liked the car, thought it was upscale, so decided to name his restaurant after the car.  Many people I assume think it's a family name.
