Catonsville Native Named Graduate School Student Speaker
Rachel Altvater, Psy.D. chosen to represent her class at nonprofit The Chicago School of Professional Psychology Commencement Ceremony

Catonsville native Dr. Rachel Altvater, a 2017 graduate of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology’s Washington, D.C. Campus’ Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program, was chosen to be the student speaker at the campus’ recent commencement ceremony where degrees were conferred upon more than 100 graduates.
Dr. Altvater is passionate about serving children, adolescents, and families who have endured traumatic experiences, and has trained at such organizations as the Child and Adolescent Day Hospital at Sheppard Pratt Health Systems, the Child Guidance Clinic at the D.C. Superior Courts and the Child Care Clinic at University of Maryland School of Medicine. She is currently serving her postdoctoral residency at The Gil Institute for Trauma Recovery and Education in Fairfax, VA, and is also working as a psychology associate at The Wake Kendall Group in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Altvater advised her fellow graduates to “…take time to reflect on your own personal journeys…How has your personal history defined the person you are today? We all have a meaningful story that we must acknowledge, own, embrace, and use to propel us forward as we enter the next chapter of our lives.”
