Charlestown Residents and Staff Help Riverview Elementary School At-Risk Students

CATONSVILLE, MD (September 14, 2016) – A total of $858 contributed by Charlestown retirement community residents and staff was given this week to Riverview Elementary School in Lansdowne. The money will be used for to purchase school supplies, to replenish Riverview’s food bank, and/or to purchase winter coats for at-risk students.

In addition, hundreds of crayons, pencils, glue sticks, Elmer’s glue, erasers, scissors, backpacks, composition books, three-ring binders, notebook paper, construction paper, and pencil cases pencil cases were given to the school.

The donation resulted from a month-long drive this past summer at Charlestown to help the school. It was held under the auspices of the staff Erickson Living Values Team and Fab 40’s, a group of residents born after January 1, 1940 that identifies itself as a learning, service and social network.

The Erickson Living Values Team promotes consistent demonstration and celebration of the Erickson Living values: Respect and Caring, Diversity, Friendliness and Enthusiasm, Integrity, Responsibility, Excellence, and Teamwork. It develops and support diverse, inclusive and meaningful events for residents and staff; promotes and enhances the Mission Moments Employee Recognition Program; engages teammates in developing and sharing their ideas and talents; and encourages volunteerism.

Riverview Elementary School is a comprehensive, community school with nearly 600 students, grades Pre-K through Five. Its high expectations for academic performance and behavior, coupled with differentiated, high quality, data driven instruction, prepares students to be this country's leaders and problem solvers of the future.

The school is technology rich, with SMART Boards in every classroom, two computer laboratories , two mobile computer labs, a television studio, and a host of individual technology tools.
