Charlestown Rubber Duck Race Raises $1,400 for Benevolent Care Fund

CATONSVILLE, MD (September 20, 2016) -- Charlestown retirement community residents today raced 401 rubber ducks in a swim fundraiser for the Benevolent Care Fund. They raised a total of $1,400 for the fund, which helps residents who experience an unforeseen change in their financial situation for reasons beyond their control.

Residents jumped into a 50-Foot-long, 4-feet-deep pool and raceed rubber ducks sponsored by staff and residents with a minimum pledge of $5.

The residents created a wall at one end of the pool. All ducks were put in the pool at the exact same time. The residents then made a current to push the ducks to the other end of the pool (Going South to North). When they got to black lap marker at the North end of the pool they stopped and the first three ducks to touch the pool wall were the winners.

The Fitness/Aquatics Center was decorated in Duck décor, courtesy of nationally-known balloon artist Robbie Furman. Scores of staff and residents cheered on the swimming residents and the winning rubber ducks.
