Deadly Fire in Academy Heights Under Investigation

CATONSVILLE, MD — An Academy Heights woman was found deceased in her home Friday after a kitchen fire, according to police.

Theresa Catherine Skurkey, 83, was by located first responders at her residence in the 6100 block of Regent Park Road, the Baltimore County Police Department reported.

At 1:31 a.m., firefighters had been dispatched to the home after a smoke smell was reported in the area.

Authorities said they found a small kitchen fire, and Catonsville firefighters located Skurkey in the kitchen. She was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

Authorities said they do not suspect foul play but the police department is investigating.

This was the third Baltimore County resident to die in a fire this week. A Middle River man who was disabled died in a house fire on Friday, Jan. 27, and a Parkville man was killed in an apartment blaze on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
