Oriole Bird Frolics at Charlestown Employee Appreciation Week Event

He Makes Hundreds of New Friends, Leads Fire Extinguisher Race

CATONSVILLE, MD (June 28, 2016) -- The Oriole Bird frolicked with his many fans and made new friends June 22 as the guest of honor at Charlestown retirement community's employee picnic.

The picnic, which was held during Employee Appreciation Week festivities, thanked the more than 1,000 full and part-time Charlestown employees for everything they do each day to help create a community that celebrates life.

The Oriole Bird led a Fire Extinguisher Race in which 30 employees carried a fire extinguisher and ran the bases on Charlestown's regulation baseball diamond, stopping at second base to extinguish a small fire in a pit. Loretta Lawrence of the Housekeeping Department won this race by being the fastest person to put out the fire.
