Southern Comfort Food Comes to Charlestown

Mary Parker Cooks Special Cuisine at Diversity and Inclusion Council Event.

CATONSVILLE, MD (February 17, 2016) -- -- Charlestown retirement community’s Mary Parker, a cook in the Terrace Cafe, today gave a Southern Comfort Food demo for 100 residents and staff.

She cooked BBQ chicken, collard greens, potato salad, and cornbread. The Medical Center’s Practice Administrator Dean Crawford assisted her.

Parker, a 17-year employee whose grandmother taught her to cook , spoke of her South Carolina family heritage. Her southern charm captivated everyone as she provided insight into how African American cooking has influenced the taste buds of Americans from all walks of life
