St. Agnes Hospital Honors Charlestown's EMS Staff

Rapid Response Saved a Patient's Life.

CATONSVILLE, MD (August 23, 2016) – The St. Agnes Hospital Emergency Department and Cardiac Care Team this month honored Charlestown retirement community emergency medical technicians Eric Ernst and Craig Nelson for providing excellent care to ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction patients and meeting the national standard of door-to-balloon time in less than 90 minutes.

The award specifically recognizes the quick response work of Ernst and Nelson on a May 11th chest pain call. They rapidly assessed and made the differential diagnosis. The patient was, in fact, having a ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction. At a Basic Life Support level made the decision was made to consult and deliver the patient to St. Agnes Hospital as a “Priority 1.”

St. Agnes was able to have its ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction team at the door waiting for the patient as a result of the quality of the consult. The patient was quickly moved to cath lab and received not one, but two stents, saving his life.
