Royal Farms Opens in College Park
The convenience store is one of many new food establishments to open near the University of Maryland campus.
Despite opening its doors on a dreary morning, many still ventured to Royal Farms, the new convenience shop in College Park that opened on Thursday.
“This is a market we haven’t come to yet,” said Raj Puri, the senior district manager.
The store, which has 136 branches in four states, is hoping to capitalize on the market of students looking for a quick place to get something to eat. The shop, which features snacks, meals and coffee, could prove most convenient for the hundreds of students living in the Varsity, where Royal Farms is located on the first floor.

“I think I’ll come to Royal Farms a lot,” said Tori Lee who was at the store with Brie Whalen on opening day. Both Lee and Whalen live in the Varsity, and are relieved to not have to travel down U.S. Route 1 for a snack anymore.
Assistant Manager Shawna Crawford said that, before opening, the store saw a lot of people stopping by to check the official opening day for Royal Farms.

Coupons in local magazines and Muscle Milk and Red Bull tastings are just a few strategies Royal Farms used attract customers opening day, Crawford said.
