7 HoCo High Schools Among Top 25 In Baltimore Metro: U.S. News

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Seven high schools in Howard County ranked among the top 25 high schools in the Baltimore metro area, according to new rankings from U.S. News & World Report. The Howard County Public School System joined Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Queen Anne's counties as well as Baltimore City in the rankings.

"We've heard from students, parents and school officials that they're interested in seeing how their school compares with others in the community," Robert Morse, chief data strategist at U.S. News, said in a news release. "With these new rankings, residents in more than 900 metro areas nationwide can see which local schools are succeeding at educating and graduating their students."

Schools in the Howard County Public School System that ranked among the top 25 in the Baltmore metro area were River Hill (No. 2), Centennial (No. 7), Glenelg (No. 11), Marriotts Ridge (No. 18), Howard (No. 19), Mount Hebron (No. 21) and Atholton (No. 23).

Separate from the publication's annual ranking of the best high schools in the country — published in April — the best high schools by metro area rankings released on Wednesday look at how schools compare to each other in the same region.

U.S. News says it used the same methodology to compile the metro-area rankings as it did for the national rankings.
