• Residents Can Help Name Howard Co.'s 1st Pre-K Facility (patch.com) — Columbia residents are being asked to help name Howard County's first regional pre-kindergarten facility, now under construction at the historic Faulkner Ridge Center. The renovated Columbia building will become the Faulkner Ridge Early Learning Center, adding 260 pre-K seats by August 2027, and community members can submit naming ideas online through Sept. 11.
   

• Driver Hits ICE Officer In Columbia Parking Lot: Officials (patch.com) — Columbia readers are learning more about an Aug. 11 incident in which an 18-year-old allegedly struck an ICE officer with a car in the Eataliano Market & Deli parking lot and then fled. Officials say the encounter happened during a targeted enforcement operation in Columbia, and the suspect later turned himself in and is now held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.
