Bodies Dug Up From Graves, Markers Removed, Memorials Damaged At Elkridge Cemetery: Report

Supporters say an historic cemetery recently was vandalized with bodies dug up from graves, markers removed and memorials damaged.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — At least three graves have been disturbed, grave markers removed and memorials damaged at the historic Rosa Bonheur Memorial Park in Elkridge.

The 87-year-old cemetery, a site for both human and pet burials, had grave markers piled up, graves dug up and bodies removed, nearby gravestones were damaged, and muddy ruts ground into the property. WBAL reported on the incident Dec. 26, which the Rosa Bonheur Society believes happened on or around Dec. 19.

The cemetery closed in 2004. At least 24 humans and 4,000 animals are confirmed to be buried in the cemetery. Friends of Rosa Bonheur told WBAL that a developer, Mark Levy, has denied any involvement in the damage.
