Break-Ins at 2 Oakland Mills Road Businesses: Columbia Crime

Recent crime reports out of Columbia also include a juvenile charged with attempted robbery and assault, police said.

COLUMBIA, MD — The Howard County Police Department provided the following information about recent crimes in Columbia.

2 Smash-and-Grabs on Oakland Mills Road

Arabesque Dance Studio in the 6900 block of Oakland Mills Road was burglarized; someone broke the glass front door and took cash from the business, which reported the crime at 2:43 p.m. on Aug. 20.

Cash and checks were stolen from the School of Rock in the 6900 block of Oakland Mills Road. The burglar(s) got into the business by breaking the glass on the front door. The break-in was reported at 8:55 a.m. on Aug. 20.

Home Burglars Target Electronics, Prescriptions

Electronics were stolen from the 10300 block of Hickory Ridge Road, where the suspect(s) pried open the front door. The burglary was reported at 4:22 p.m. on Aug. 22.

Electronics were stolen from a residence in the 8700 block of Cloudleap Court. A back window was damaged in the burglary, which occurred between 10 a.m. and 7:40 p.m. on Aug. 22.

Passports, personal documents, cash and a safe were stolen from a residence in the 6000 block of Majors Lane. The suspect kicked in a screen in the burglary, which occurred around 10:24 p.m. on Aug. 22.

Personal documents and prescription medication were stolen from a residence in the 5600 block of Stevens Forest Road. The burglary was reported at 6:01 p.m. on Aug. 21. It was unclear how the suspect got into the residence.

Juvenile Charged After Botched iPhone Deal

A 15-year-old Columbia boy and a 16-year-old Elkridge boy were charged with attempted second-degree assault, robbery and theft after trying to steal money from a man inside a vehicle.

The victim had met with the duo in the 7200 block of Montgomery Run Road and changed his mind after agreeing to buy an iPhone from them.

Police arrested the juveniles and released them to the custody of their parents. The crime occurred at 7:38 p.m. on Aug. 19.
