Bystander Shot, Injured Leaving Columbia Sam's Mart: Police

An argument outside a store on Stevens Forest Road ended in gunfire Saturday, according to Howard County police.

COLUMBIA, MD — Police said a bystander was shot in the leg outside a convenience store Saturday night in Columbia. He was hospitalized and is expected to survive, according to officials.

Officers were called to the Sam's Mart at 6:37 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.

As two men were having an altercation outside Sam's Mart in the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road, investigators said that the 21-year-old Columbia man was shot once while leaving the store.

During the argument, one man pulled out a handgun and fired several times at the other man, according to police, who said he missed his intended target and hit a man leaving the store instead.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 911.
