Columbia Brewery Opening Off Route 108

A new brewery will be opening a taproom this year, marking the third for Columbia.

COLUMBIA, MD — A brewery specializing in barrel-aged beer and fresh ales will be opening in 2018 in Columbia. Sapwood Cellars has leased space off Route 108 and will spend the next several months getting its operation up and running by the summer.

Another brewery had originally planned to rent the space in the Oakland Ridge Center on Route 108 in Columbia, according to The Daily Record, which reports that business did not end up leasing it, and now Sapwood Cellars has set its sights on a June opening.

Sapwood Cellars co-founders Scott Janish and Mike Tonsmeire picked the 7,200-square-foot space on Route 108 for its parking and room to grow the brewery and taproom, The Daily Record reported.

There are two other Columbia breweries. Hysteria Brewing Company opened in July 2017 on Berger Road, while Black Flag Brewing Company was the first, opening in 2016.
