Columbia Blizzard: More Than 2 Feet of Snow Reported

COLUMBIA, MD – More than 2 feet of snow fell in Columbia during the blizzard this weekend, according to data submitted to the National Weather Service.
Here are preliminary snow accumulation reports:
- Glenelg—28 inches as of 9:40 p.m.
- Columbia—25 inches as of 10:05 p.m.
- Savage—24 inches at approximately 8 p.m.
- Hanover—21 inches as of 7 p.m.
Travel is “extremely treacherous“ and roads are “virtually impassible with whiteout conditions reported,” according to Howard County government.

When will streets be plowed?
Howard County crews may take at least one day to open the main roadway arteries and two to three days for secondary streets and cul-de-sacs, according to Howard County government.

To help crews responding to emergencies, citizens are asked to shovel around fire hydrants and storm drains.
Homeowners are also encouraged to shovel around the foundations of their homes so vents stay clear.

Nearly 2 feet of snow have fallen in Columbia as of 3 p.m. Saturday, according to data submitted to the National Weather Service.
Travel is “extremely treacherous“ and roads are “virtually impassible with whiteout conditions reported,” according to Howard County government.

The National Weather Service is predicting 30 to 36 inches of snow in the western part of the county and 24 to 30 inches in the eastern part of the county by Sunday morning, Howard officials reported Saturday afternoon.
There were 23.4 inches of snow reported in north Columbia at 3 p.m. and more on the way.
The forecast showed 3.3 inches of additional snow would fall by 7 p.m., an extra 1.5 inches by midnight and 0.1 inch would top it off by 6 a.m. Sunday in Columbia.
