Driver Hospitalized After Hitting Tree on Guilford Road

Alcohol may have been a factor in Sunday morning Columbia crash, according to the Howard County Police Department.

A driver was taken to shock trauma in serious condition Sunday morning after a crash on Guilford Road in Columbia that police said may have involved alcohol.

Guilford Road was closed for several hours after the 1:13 a.m. crash, which occurred between Old Columbia Road and Kings Meade Way; the Howard County Police Department reported it had reopened by 4:35 a.m.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a 2007 Nissan Versa was headed north on Guilford Road when his car left the road and hit a tree before Old Columbia Road, police reported.

Danny Ivan Moreno, 25, of Silver Spring, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in serious but stable condition, police said. No one else was inside the car, according to police.

Officials said that their initial investigation pointed to alcohol as a potential factor in the crash.
