Howard County Schools Calendar 2019-2020: Dates To Know, Holidays

COLUMBIA, MD — The days of teens earning money from a summer job and kids lounging poolside are almost over. The clock is ticking toward the start of the school year for Howard County students, and whether you and the kids are looking forward to the new school year or are dreading the end of summer vacation, you need to mark the first day of school, Sept. 3, on your calendar.

Howard County Public School System has released its 2019-2020 calendar, but notes that the dates listed are subject to change. The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences. Five make-up days due to inclement weather have been built into the end of the calendar year.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

8/14: High school sports practices begin

8/21: Staff report to school

8/22: Countywide professional learning day

8/28: Countywide professional learning day

9/2: Schools and offices are closed for Labor Day

9/3: School begins for kindergartners through 12th graders

9/5 First day of school for pre-K/RECC

9/30: Schools and offices are closed

10/8: Interim progress reports issued

10/9: Schools and offices are closed

10/18: Schools are closed for a professional staff work day

11/1: Schools dismiss three hours early; no half-day pre-K/RECC

11/11: Report cards issued

11/25: Schools dismiss three hours early; no half-day pre-K/RECC

11/26: Schools dismiss three hours early; no half-day pre-K/RECC

11/27: School closed for students

11/28: School and offices are closed

11/29: School and offices are closed

12/13: Interim progress reports issued

12/23: School closed

12/24: School and offices are closed

12/25: School and offices are closed
