Man Charged in Two Columbia Burglaries: Police

Police are investigating whether man may be behind other residential burglaries in the area.

A Baltimore man has been charged in connection with two residential burglaries in Columbia that occurred last month, the Howard County Police Department reported.

A 51-year-old man from the 2300 block of McCulloh Street in Baltimore was charged with one count of malicious destruction of property; two counts of first-degree burglary; two counts of third-degree burglary; two counts of fourth-degree burglary; and two counts of theft between $1,000 and $10,000, online court records show.

The burglaries occurred Oct. 27 and Oct. 23, police said.

Electronics and jewelry were stolen from a residence in the 5100 block of Starsplit Lane on Oct. 27 after the burglar got in through an unlocked window, according to police.

Days prior, on Oct. 23, electronics were stolen from a residence in the 8900 block of Sidelong Place, where someone got in through a rear sliding door that was left unlocked, police said.

Police identified the suspect through investigation and arrested him Nov. 18, according to the report from the Howard County Police Department.

The man had some of the items that had been stolen from the residences in his possession, according to Lori Boone of the police department.

Authorities are investigating whether he may be connected to other October residential burglaries in Columbia, according to the report.

The man charged is being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $75,000 bond.
