Man With Flashlight Breaks Into Car In Columbia: Police
Police said a man broke a car window in Columbia to steal $7.
COLUMBIA, MD — A man broke into a car in Columbia Monday morning, and police have asked for tips to help identify him. He was seen shining a flashlight into multiple vehicles and trying car door handles on surveillance video.
The "window shopping" occurred in the 6200 block of Discover Court in the village of Hickory Ridge, authorities reported.
Ultimately, the man left with $7 in cash.

Officials said the theft occurred around 4 a.m. on Monday, July 15.

Police said that the video was shared through the Neighbors app, a free doorbell video-sharing app. People can join by texting HCPD to 555888, and they do not need to have a doorbell camera to participate.
To prevent their vehicles from attracting would-be thieves, people are advised to take their valuables with them or put them out of view, such as in the trunk. That includes keys and loose change. Additionally, drivers should lock their doors and ensure windows are up to keep thieves out.
