HOWARD COUNTY, MD — As Tropical Storm Isaias makes it way to Maryland, curbside trash, recycling, food scrap and yard trim curbside collection has been halted for Tuesday. As a result, the county's bureau of environmental service's inclement weather slide schedule will be in effect for the rest of the week, meaning Tuesday's collection will slide to Wednesday, Wednesday to Thursday, Thursday to Friday, Friday to Saturday and Saturday on Saturday.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said the county's emergency management team is monitoring the storm, which is expected to cause heavy rainfall. A flash flood watch has been issued for the county from Monday 11 p.m. through Tuesday 11 p.m. and the U,S. National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington has issued a tropical storm warning for Howard County, meaning tropical storm-force winds are expected somewhere within this area within the next 36 hours.

Rainfall totals are expected to cause widespread area flooding and flash flooding, Ball added. Low-lying roads that typically flood during heavy rain are likely to flood with this storm and should be avoided. Mudslides also are a possibility with the expected amount of rainfall.
