Police Identify Columbia Shooting Victim, Suspect at Large

The 29-year-old shot in a Stevens Forest Road apartment on Thanksgiving was in stable condition, police said.

The victim of a shooting in Columbia on Thanksgiving was in stable condition Friday, Howard County police reported. Authorities said they have not yet identified a suspect.

Elijah Walter Jackson, 29, of Columbia was inside an apartment at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday where a man knocked on the door, a woman inside answered, and the man ”barged in and began shooting,” according to the report from police.

Jackson was from Harper’s Choice and did not live in the apartment, said Mary Phelan, spokeswoman for the police department.

The suspect was wearing a mask and carrying a gun, police said. He left the scene after the shooting, according to police, who said Friday that officials have not identified the shooter.

Jackson was shot multiple times and flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was listed as stable on Friday, police said.

Police responding to the scene stopped a vehicle as it was leaving the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road and found a resident of the apartment in the driver’s seat and a passenger—Brandon Leonard Marine, 29, of Catonsville—with a minor hand injury, the report said.

His injury occurred in the apartment where the shooting took place but police could not confirm how it happened, Phelan reported. She said it was also known whether Jackson and Marine knew one another.

Marine was taken to area hospital where he was treated and released, police said.

Several people were detained for questioning Thursday and all have been released, according to Phelan.

Police said the search for a suspect continues and based on preliminary investigation, the shooting appeared to be targeted and not a random act.
