Rush Hour Snow Possible; Plan Ahead for Evening Commute
Transportation officials are preparing for cold front accompanied by snow, strong winds, possible ice.

Snow showers, gusty winds and dropping temperatures are on the way, according to the National Weather Service.
In a special weather statement Tuesday afternoon, forecasters said that snow will arrive by 4 and depart by 8 p.m. across Maryland, D.C. and northern Virginia.
The amount of snow could range from “locally heavy” to a “quick coating,” according to the weather service.

“Evening commuters should use extra caution and take their time,” the National Weather Service said in a statement. “Visibility could drop rapidly for a brief period during heavier snow showers, and roads which appear wet later this evening could in fact be icy.”
A light snow was falling in northern Maryland at 3:30 p.m., the National Weather Service reported, “ahead of the main squall.” Snow will hit the Interstate 95 corridor around 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, weather officials said.

As temperatures drop and a wind advisory takes effect at 4 p.m., icy patches are possible on untreated roads.
“Be extra careful and slow down on bridges, ramps and overpasses,” the State Highway advised Tuesday afternoon. “There could be icy spots this evening and overnight.”
