For Sale Signs May Be Altered To Reflect HoCo Redistricting Issue

A HoCo councilman is proposing that for sale signs do not list schools because of the redistricting proposal on the table for HCPSS.

COLUMBIA, MD — Howard County parents and students have been voicing their concerns about their school system's redistricting proposal. One county official believes he has a solution to help newcomers moving into the district understand that where they buy a home may not be where their kids attend school.

Howard County Councilman Opel Jones wants home buyers, sellers, realtors and developers to not advertise public schools on their for sale signs. Jones thinks this will provide more flexibility within the district, since school zones likely will be changing within the year, he said.

“We want to make sure that anyone who buys a property, that they know that whatever school they go to it’s going to be some of the best in the country,” Jones told WJZ. "If they also see a sign on top that says this particular school district, they think this is the school that I’m definitely going to when in fact that could change from year to year."
