Crashes Involving 20, 30 Vehicles Reported in Howard County

Police asked people to stay off roads Sunday morning.

Freezing rain caused roads to be icy—some of which were shut down so crews could treat them—Sunday morning in Howard County, authorities said.

The Howard County Police Department urged drivers to stay home and avoid travel Sunday morning.

  • US Route 40 at I-70; all lanes closed for 30-vehicle crash after 10 a.m.; reopened by 10:45 a.m.
  • US 40 at Chestnut Hill Drive; 20-vehicle collision closed eastbound Route 40.
  • MD Route 108 at Manorstone Lane; all lanes closed for crash at 8:52 a.m.
  • Eastbound US Route 40 at the Patapsco River Bridge
  • Main Street in Ellicott City reportedly icy.
