32 HoCo Residents Displaced After Wednesday's Storms, Officials Say

The National Weather Service had issued an alert for severe weather, including a tornado warning.

Severe weather blew through Howard County on Wednesday, leaving 34 residents displaced in Laurel, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Howard, Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties from approximately 1 to 1:30 p.m. Elkridge and Laurel were among the areas possibly impacted, according to Howard County government.

At 1:15 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was spotted near Laurel/Columbia, moving northeast at 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

First responders were called at 1:25 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 9100 block of Stebbing Way in Laurel, where a tree had collapsed, the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services reported. All 12 apartments in the building were posted as uninhabitable, the report said, and the Red Cross was assisting the victims.

Howard County remained under a flood watch until 8 p.m., with 1 to 3 inches of rain anticipated by the National Weather Service.
